Liberal MPs shut down SNC committee before vote on recalling Wilson-Raybould

The committee meets Wednesday afternoon at the request of the Conservatives and NDP, who want to move motions to recall Wilson-Raybould, as well as to request the appearance of senior aides to Trudeau and Wilson-Raybould's former chief of staff.

The former Principal Secretary to the prime minister, Gerald Butts, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have told their sides of the story.

Shortly after the meeting convened, the Liberal committee members abruptly voted to adjourn, with Conservatives and New Democrats shouting out epithets like "Cover-up!" and "Despicable!"

Essex MP Tracey Ramsey makes her maiden question in the House of Commons, December 11, 2015. That is also the day the federal government will drop the 2019 budget.

"If Liberal MPs decide to silence her to try to prevent the committee from doing its work, there's only one conclusion that can be reached and that is that the Liberals on the committee are continuing to do the bidding of the PMO to cover this up", Cooper said. Text of the opposition-backed motion asked for her to appear "no later" than March 14.

"The committee has already expressed its wishes on March 6 to have this particular hearing on March 19 so it's as simple as that", he said as he left the room.

"Today was an extreme disappointment", Ramsey said.

He said she can provide the committee with a written statement and noted she's testified before the committee for almost four hours already. "If they were going to let her speak, they could have done it today".

While Wilson-Raybould did present her accounts of what happened to the House of Commons Justice Committee opposition leader Andrew Scheer has said that her statements have not gone far enough and is now pushing her to continue sharing her experience.

"He sent in his majority to shut down that discussion without a debate and ensure that Canadians will never know the truth", Poilievre said after the abrupt end of the meeting.

Too bad Jody Wilson-Raybould was too proud to accept the Indigenous services portfolio when offered it by our prime minister, after losing the prestigious job of attorney general in a cabinet shuffle.

After Wednesday's vote, Conservative member Pierre Poilievre accused the Liberal party of "trying to silence the former attorney general". The Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development has also made a rare statement saying they are "watching" the situation which involves an global incident of bribery and fraud by the Canadian-based multinational SNC Lavalin.
