PUBG Mobile Ban: Rajkot Police Reportedly Arrest 10 for Playing the Game

PUBG’s been banned in India, and at least 16 players have been arrested

The police seized the mobile phones of the individuals for "the objective of investigation" and it has charged the arrested individuals under the Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for violating the notification issued by Police Commissioner and Section 35 for playing PUBG despite ban Gujarat Police Act.

Police has registered two cases against the arrested individuals under IPC Section 188 for violating the notification issued by Police Commissioner and Section 35 for playing PUBG despite the ban under Gujarat Police Act. Speaking with Indian Express, police official Rohit Raval said, "the accused were so engrossed in playing" that they didn't notice the police's approach.

PUBG Mobile is a battle royale genre of mobile game that has amassed more than 12 million installed on the Google Play store and the iOS App Store.

Police Commissioner Manoj Agrawal, who had banned the game in the city in a March 6 notification, said it is a bailable offence and that they were arrested in public places, The Indian Express reported.

The ban was announced last week by local authorities to combat what they called the spread of "violent traits" in kids playing PUBG and "Momo challenge", a so-called suicide game.

According to the report, the six youths who were playing the game at tea stalls and fast-food joints outside a college were granted bail.

As if it wasn't odd enough for the state government to lump a multiplayer game together with an online hoax as a cause of violence, it's also only taking these threats to the fabric of society seriously from March 9 until April 30 this year. The game is also having an impact on studies as well as behaviour, conduct and language of children and youth... "We should encourage their curiosity to learn new things".

"Like everything else, technology too comes with its positives and negatives".

PM Modi said he believed if parents reached out to their children with these efforts, they would move from "PlayStation to the playground".
