These 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 episodes will be movies

Game of Thrones x John Varvatos

In the words of Septa Unella "shame, shame, shame" because they were all wrong.

Former HBO chief executive Richard Plepler made headlines with a recent Variety interview, in which he raved about the feature film quality of the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones.

HBO has released the confirmed runtime of each episode of the final season of the fantasy drama, Game of Thrones.

In January, HBO released an atmospheric teaser depicting Jon Snow (Kit Harington) grappling with his true parentage as he passes a statue of Lyanna Stark, his birth mother, in the Winterfell catacombs.

The season kicks off April 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO. The season's six episodes felt more like "six movies" than they did a set of TV episodes, he insisted, which many people took to be a reference to their length. We're learning today that most of the episodes in season 8 will run longer than the typical hour we're used to setting aside, so even though this is the shortest season in terms of episode count, there's still going to be plenty of content to watch. Episode two, airing Sunday, April 21, is 58 minutes long.

During a previous interview, the cast described this battle as "completely unprecedented" with Maisie Williams saying "nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is. You can't get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there's so much to do that nobody else can do... there are moments you're just broken as a human and just want to cry".

Resourceful fans have been sussing out the official episode lengths for months now.
