Trump raps May over Brexit negotiations

President Donald Trump Meets With Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of Ireland At The White House

Mr Trump's comments come as MPs prepare to vote on a second Brexit referendum this evening - the first time they have been given an official opportunity to have their say on the issue.

The US President criticised his British counterpart for ignoring his tips on how to strike a good deal with Brussels and said he regretted seeing "everything being ripped apart" as the Brexit crisis deepens.

DONALD TRUMP will make his long-awaited visit to the Republic of Ireland later this year.

While speaking to the press, Trump mentioned his property in Doonbeg, Clare and said that he plans on visiting Ireland.

Trump, who holds himself up as a master deal-maker, said he had given Prime Minister Theresa May his ideas on how she could negotiate a successful deal for leaving the 28-member group of nations.

During the Speaker's Lunch at the Capitol Building Mr Trump also reassured Mr Varadkar on the ongoing Brexit debate, saying "it will all work out".

Trump added: "I'm surprised at how badly it's all gone from the standpoint of a negotiation".

Asked whether he thinks the United Kingdom should push back its exit date, Trump said: "I think they're probably going to have to do something, because right now they're in the midst of a very short period of time - the end of the month - and they're not going to be able to do that".

Trump Jumps Again Into Brexit Debate

Mr Murphy and law society president Patrick Dorgan travelled to Washington DC where the Government's "Ireland: An global legal centre" initiative was launched at the Irish Embassy as part of the St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Pence glossed over the Brexit disagreement as he welcomed Varadkar for the breakfast, and grew nostalgic as he recounted his grandfather's emigration from Ireland and his own affection for the country.

Pelosi used the luncheon to make a pointed plug for immigration after just she had just described the annual event as "a tradition where we dispense with our differences, whether they're political or whether they're competitive in any other way".

Varadkar said Ireland isn't the only place where this is possible, but "every country where freedom and liberty are cherished".

Pence tweeted that he was honored to host Varadkar at his home.

During the annual event, the Taoiseach presented the United States president with a bowl of shamrock to mark his St Patrick's visit to Washington DC. "One way or the other it's going to work out".

Brexit won't spoil the relationship, even given Trump's history of turning on leaders who cross him, said Marquette University historian Timothy G. McMahon, president of the American Conference for Irish Studies.
