Wales 2019 Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam: Best of social

Ireland insist Millennium Stadium roof stays open

Wales saved its best for last in the worst conditions it played in.

It's been a Six Nations to forget for Ireland but Schmidt says the current crop will be "gracious in defeat" and take today's defeat "on the chin".

We're not actually too sure what this one is about...

Ireland were washed away as Wales completed a first Six Nations clean sweep for seven years - a tournament record fourth Grand Slam - and landed their first Six Nations title since 2013, while also climbing above Ireland to second in the official world rankings.

Ireland dominated in terms of territory during the third quarter, but they encountered a Wales defence as resilient and defiant as it had been in repelling Scotland seven days ago.

"It was a fantastic performance".

"We fought our way up to third, we're in the top half of the championship and we haven't been catastrophic but we haven't been as good as we needed to be and today was probably an example of that".

"They deserve it. This group of players will run through a brick wall for you", he said.

"Knowing that it was my last Six Nations game, you want it to be a fairytale and you want to win and to win in such a place like this would have been massive for the team but would have involved us having a massive performance", said Best.

"We got here with a bit of luck we have a good chance of beating anyone".

"There's been a request from Wales that in the interest of the quality of the game and the very poor weather forecast that the roof be closed", said Schmidt.

"Look, it is a very competitive Six Nations", said the 36-year-old grizzled hooker.

"We have to be more consistent, dust ourselves off and hope we finish strong in the World Cup".

"We're trying to build those two guys forward".

Another Anscombe penalty opened up a 13-point lead as the interval approached and, with the rain pouring down, Ireland appeared more miserable than the weather, being dominated by a title-hungry Wales team.
