C8 Chevrolet Corvette coming July 18

2020 Chevrolet Corvette confirmed for July 18 debut

Since then, the C8 has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry, with numerous spy shots, leaks, and almost-official information coming across our desks. Along with confirming the reveal date, GM has also dropped official photos of the vehicle, confirming it will be a mid-engine auto. The head of General Motors arrived a camouflaged C8 Corvette, driven by no other than chief engineer - Tadge Juechter.

The general consensus of speculation surrounding the auto has been that the base Corvette will be powered by a naturally aspirated V8 with around 500 hp and not cost much more than the current $56,990 Stingray, while higher performance models could feature turbocharged or supercharged engines and possibly an all-wheel-drive hybrid drivetrain offering as much as 1,000 hp.

"The sale of this iconic Corvette will help the foundation continue its good work, and pave the way for the Next Generation Corvette that we will introduce on July 18", said GM CEO Mary Barra.

We finally have a date, folks!

The base model will likely use an upgraded version of the 6.2-liter V8 engine that now sits in the Corvette C7 and Camaro SS.

The price tag is expected to go between $60,000 and $70,000.

There's been plenty of speculation as to what this mid-engined C8 version will offer. It's also been reported that at least some trims will get a dual-clutch automatic transmission to replace the current automatic. Rumors suggest a twin-turbo, DOHC, 5.5-liter V8 with a flat plane crankshaft with an output of 700+ horsepower and 700+ lbs/ft of torque. For a while, everyone thought it's going to be a 7-speed Tremec DCT.
