Toddler locks dad's iPad for 48 years

A toddler getting to grips with a tablet

Two days later, following a mix of witty responses and useful tips, Osnos shared an update on his "toddler-iPad-lock-out" issue. One such incident was recorded in Washington D.C., U.S.A, when a 3-year-old boy reportedly locked his dad's iPad for over 48 years. "Ideas?", Evan wrote on Twitter.

If you connect your iPad to a PC and run iTunes, you can force-restart the device, and restore it from a backup.

According to Apple's guidelines, users are advised to restore and update their settings through iTunes.

"Try again in 25,536,442 minutes".

The iPad lockout is a security feature of Apple devices that kicks in whenever someone repeatedly types the wrong password. Hope he can get the password right that time! . In case you are wondering, there are 525,600 minutes in a regular year (not counting Leap Year).

That means Osnos' iPad will not be unlockable until 2067 - by then there might not even be iPads anymore; people could just be communicating via high-tech microchips installed in their brains. Another suggested time travel as his best bet. Alternatively, users can reset the device to start fresh and lose all that data. Some offered genuine tech advice while other cheeky ones said, "Put it in a bag of rice!" which clearly doesn't help at all.

On Monday, Osnos told the New York Daily News he was "still locked out".

Thankfully, Osnos later tweeted that he was able to restore the device. Hopefully Onos gets his iPad in working order again, and when he does, he should definitely consider putting the device out of his child's reach.
