Twitter divided after Rishabh Pant misses out on India’s World Cup squad

Rishabh Pant,World Cup,X-factor

Yes, the flamboyant Delhi wicket-keeper batsman, who became India's first-choice keeper in Tests with hundreds in Australia and England - A feat never achieved by any Indian keeper before - lost out the race to World Cup to a much-experienced Dinesh Karthik.

"That is the only reason why we went ahead with DK otherwise Pant was nearly there", he added.

"We've seen Karthik finishing matches under pressure", said chief selector MSK Prasad.

"Pant is full of talent, he has time on his hands".

Ambati Rayudu, K L Rahul and all-rounder Vijay Shankar's name are in the contention for the No.4 slot.

Moments after India's World Cup squad was announced on Monday, a question reigned supreme on everyone's mind - why no Rishabh Pant?

BCCI tweeted the list of 15 players and they include: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar, KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami. "Unfortunately he missed out". "We all were in unison that either pant or DK will come in only when Mahi is injured", MSKPrasad said after the squad was announced. "That scored for him".

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. More importantly, Jadeja brings with him solidarity at the lower end of the batting and not to forget his brilliance on the field. "After the (2017) Champions Trophy, we tried quite a few people in that position". His ability to bowl in the Overcast conditions and good fielding also worked. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, who missed a lot of matches in early 2019 due to "Koffee with Karan" controversy, were selected in the squad.

Four extra fast bowlers will travel with the team. India begins its World Cup campaign against South Africa and will also face arch-rivals Pakistan in Manchester in the group stage.
