At Charity Event, Patrick Peterson Apologizes For Suspension

Immediate and long-term ramifications of Patrick Peterson’s six-game suspension

Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson discusses being suspended for the first 6 games of the 2019 National Football League season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the six-game ban will cost Peterson $3,882,352. He posted a few cryptic messages on social media last month while deleting all mentions of the Cardinals in his profiles.

The Cardinals' star cornerback said he was "definitely, definitely sorry" for the infraction that will keep him out until the team's Week 7 game against the Giants.

The six-game suspension on a player's first violation stems from a positive test plus an attempt to manipulate or mask the result, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Peterson believed he could save at least $2 million with a reworked contract, according to Gambadoro.

Peterson, who is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games, will miss Arizona's regular-season opener vs. the Lions, then games at Baltimore, at home against the Panthers and Seahawks, at Cincinnati and at home against the Falcons.

Since his debut in the league back in 2011, Peterson has yet to miss a single game for the Cardinals. Go here for the Cardinals' complete 2019 schedule. Arizona signed veteran Robert Alford as a free agent this offseason and used a second-round draft pick this year on Washington cornerback Byron Murphy.

Even with the Cardinals on the decline last season with the hope of turning things around in 2019, Peterson has always been one of those players the Rams worry about, and that trend will continue for as long as he remains in the NFC West. He has never missed a game, and has 23 career interceptions, with 76 passes defended.
