Britney Spears' career may be over, longtime manager says

Britney Spears in Moscow

Larry Rudolph, her manager, said that it now isn't healthy for the 37-year-old to perform live or work on her Las Vegas residency, TMZ reported on May 14.

He said, "From what I have gathered it's clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again".

The source says that Spears "loves to perform" and it "would be devastating" if she didn't have the opportunity to take the stage again.

Rudolph also said it's clear to him that Spears does not want to get on stage at the moment, saying, "Last summer, when she wanted to tour, she called me every day. And, if she ever does want to work again, I'm here to tell her if it's a good idea or a bad idea", he added. "If that time never comes again it will never come again", he said. "He allows the boys to spend time with Britney, but it's at his discretion".

Britney Spears performs onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at T-Mobile Arena on September 24, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Spears became a teen pop phenomenon in 1999 with her debut single ".Baby One More Time" and subsequent hits like "Oops!. My role is to handle her career when she wants a career. "I understand how much these fans love her and support her and I love that".

Since 2008 Spears has been under a court-ordered conservatorship which does not allow her to make major financial or personal decisions without the approval of her father. Jamie Spears' recovery from his ailment evidently has not been smooth; after postponing her residency, Britney later checked herself into a health facility for a month-long stay, suffering from stress due to his illness. Personally, I want for her to just find a peaceful, happy place - whatever that means for her. She was excited. She hasn't called me in months. An unnamed source said Spears had "received treatment, seen a psychiatrist and other doctors" over the last decade but the medication she had been taking for her mental wellness had lost efficacy. And, if she ever does want to work again, I am here to tell her if it is a good idea or not, " he said.

While Rudolph is only given information on a "need-to-know basis", like medical information that would impact her career, he clearly sounds like he's in the know about her current situation.

Rudolph has managed Spears' career since the early days.
