Next Nintendo Direct will focus on Super Mario Maker 2

Next Nintendo Direct is about Super Mario Maker 2

Nintendo has announced a "roughly 15-minute" Super Mario Maker 2 Nintendo Direct for tomorrow, May 15, at 3pm PT/6pm ET/11pm BST.

Another huge addition is the Mario 3D World building style.

New course parts include slopes, power switches, giant Bullet Bills, water levels and the terrifying Angry Sun obstacle from "Super Mario Bros. 3".

New themes include deserts, snow, forest, sky, and a selectable night theme that can alter all of the courses.

Buying the vouchers will also give you 780 Gold Points though, which means even more savings on games down the line. You have access to Spike Blocks, Blinking Blocks, Warp Boxes and a whole load more of block types besides. 3D world was obviously not merely a side-scroller, though the theme here aims to bring many of its features into the side-scrolling Mario Maker action. You have enemies like the Charvaargh lava work, the Skipsquak mobs that jump when you do, and the Pop Pom kids who throw ninja stars at Mario. Because this is a separate theme, these can't be used in the other styles of level.

Levels can also be made cooperatively with someone else with another Joy-Con. Players can also join up for versus and co-op multiplayer modes via the hub.

Competitive play is in, including for online. This comes complete with a ranking system for online.

No further information was given besides the announcement on Twitter, but with Super Mario Maker 2 releasing on June 28, we will undoubtedly know a lot more about the sequel to 2015's Super Mario Maker for the Wii U very soon. But the number of restrictions and caveats is honestly baffling, and I wish Nintendo would just follow in Sony and Microsoft's footsteps and offer consistently discounted prices on digital games to NSO subscribers instead. Offline, you can link Switch machines together for this mode - and only the host player will need an internet connection. There are 100 courses and they're created to introduce you to the tools you can use in the levels you build yourself.

The list of games you can select your two titles from has some big names on it, and while it's mostly comprised of Nintendo's own Switch releases, there are some third-party games on there as well.
