Paul George among finalists for NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year

NBA reveals awards finalists for 2018-19 season

James Harden is the other finalist for MVP and Utah's Rudy Gobert is in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year. Although the awards have already been voted on by a panel of media members, those two categories were highly competitive.

PG would become the Thunder's third MVP victor, and first Defensive Player of the Year victor, if he walks away with either award. Gobert is the defending DPOY victor.

Reigning NBA MVP James Harden of the Houston Rockets is one of three finalists for the award for the 2018-19 season, the league announced Friday. Neither Antetokounmpo nor George has won an MVP award.

Harden averaged a league high 36.1 points per game, while knocking down 378 3-pointers at a 36.8% clip.

The NBA MVP race had always been viewed as a two-way competition between Harden and Antetokounmpo. He also added 8.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 77 games for the Thunder. The Greek Freak ranked third in the Association in scoring (27.7 points), sixth in rebounds (12.5), 11th in field-goal percentage (57.8 percent), and 10th in rejections (1.53).

George finished first in steals with a career-high 2.2 per game and is viewed as one of the best two-way players in the National Basketball Association.

Despite a rough outing in the postseason, Paul George has finished as a finalist for the MVP.

Gobert was the only Jazzman named as a finalist for the NBA's end of season awards, to be announced June 24 on TNT. The third annual NBA Awards will take place at Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.
