The GAME OF THRONES Showrunners Are Making The Next STAR WARS Movie

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed this during an presentation today where he also announced that the next Star Wars movie after Rise of Skywalker will be from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

If there are two people who know how to direct an arsenal of characters with weird names, it's certainly David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

"The Benioff and Weiss series will be the next Star Wars movies released", Iger said.

Then, there's the concern about how Benioff and Weiss will handle a Star Wars film or series, given the rising criticism about the final season of Game of Thrones-much of it centring around the writing and pace. "We're not saying anything more about that", Iger told the crowd. "So we're not doing nothing".

"My guess is there will probably be one more; at least one more live-action series that we produce. before we release the next film".

"The conclusion that we reached is that three years was the proper amount of time to not only take a breather and to reset, but to really gear up for the next film's release".

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens up December 20th, 2019, wrapping up the trilogy that J.J. Abrams kicked off four years ago.

Iger said he hasn't seen the finished Rise of Skywalker yet, but he expects it will be extremely popular.

Hope you didn't think that "hiatus" from Star Wars meant Disney wasn't going to continue to go balls-in on making Star Wars stuff, because whoops, there's a ton more Star Wars coming right at your dome.

Fans are already speculating they could be released in the alternating years, 2023, 2025 and 2027, but that has not been confirmed.

The first series is entitled The Mandalorian, which Jon Favreau is shepherding, with the second untitled show said to be a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, following Diego Luna's Cassian Andor.
