Boeing 737 Max planes to fly again by December: US FAA official

American Airlines operates 14 of the 737 MAX aircraft and is canceling 115 flights a day as a result of their

Ahead of the recertification of the Boeing 737 Max Aircraft grounded globally following the plane's involvement in two fatal crashes killing over 500 people, the Ethiopian Airlines says it will be the last to operate the aircraft when the ban is lifted.

"Boeing is now providing additional information to address Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requests that include detail on how pilots interact with the airplane controls and displays in different flight scenarios", the representative said.

Besides, the news came forth a day after the No. 1 US domestic airliners, American Airlines had delayed its on-air date for Boeing Co.'s Max 737 up to September 3rd, stating that Boeing Co. had yet to send its software fix to US Federal Aviation Authority for an approval.

It's not possible to give an exact date as work progresses on safety fixes to the aircraft, Ali Bahrami, the US regulator's associate administrator for aviation safety, said on Wednesday in interview at an aviation safety conference in Cologne, Germany.

Muilenburg said last week on CNBC that he expected that the Max would be back in the air by the end of the year.

Grounded WestJet Boeing 737 Max aircraft are shown at the airline's facilities in Calgary on May 7.

On Wednesday, American Airlines Chief Executive Doug Parker said he believed it was "highly likely" that the MAX would be flying again by mid-August.

Once regulators approve the MAX, airlines will need some time to train pilots on the software fix, meant to prevent the erroneous triggering of a system called MCAS that played a role in the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes, and to prepare the jets following months of storage.

The FAA isn't the only regulator that holds sway over returning the Max to the skies.

Boeing on June 11 reported it had booked no new aircraft orders in May and had recorded a net total, after deducting cancellations, of 15 in the first five months of this year after the removal of 82 737 MAX orders as a result of contractual changes.
