Google Maps is testing a new safety feature for taxi passengers

Apple Maps Hero

Waze has slowly and surely become the go-to navigation app for drivers all over, with the ability to report traffic conditions/incidents and communicate with other users on the road setting it apart from other competitors - namely, Google Maps. And, thanks to the latest update announced by Google, the handy Google Assistant is now on Waze.

Lately, Google has been updating Maps with a plethora of features including a speedometer and support for showing radar locations. Over the years, however, Google has ported several of Waze's features over to its own home-brewed maps app. Someone using Google Maps can use the virtual helper to vocally respond to texts, tell family and friends their ETA and stream podcasts and music. So, now you don't have to keep your hands both on your smartphone as well as on the driving wheels.

Now, this functionality can be controlled via voice. The Assistant is available on many Google apps and other third-party apps.

Waze has been such a popular app due to its crowd-sourced traffic data that can make a whole difference while you are driving.

Bear in mind that the feature has just begun rolling out today. For more tips on how to get the most out of Waze, consult our guide.

Users will be able to search for places along their route and add stops along the way just by using their voice, according to Google which released official info via a blog post. Spotted by XDA, the app will now warn you whenever your driver deviates from the quickest available route by more than 500 meters (.31 miles). We should see Waze's Google Assistant integration roll out to many countries as soon as the company makes sure that it works as intended.
