Kroger to begin selling CBD products in 17 states including Kentucky

Kroger To Introduce CBD Products In 17 States

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a product that comes from the cannabis plant.

Kroger is the latest retailer to get into the CBD business.

Besides Wisconsin, Kroger will sell CBD creams, balms and oils in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Washington and Wyoming, according to the company.

In a statement to CNBC Tuesday, Kroger announced they will be selling hemp-derived CBD topical products, including creams, balms and oils, in 945 stores across 17 states.

Kroger's CBD offerings will range in price from $3.99 to $59.99, but the specific brands the store would offer were not yet available.

"Our limited selection of hemp-derived CBD topical products is from suppliers that have been reviewed for quality and safety", she added.

The U.S. Agricultural Department regulates industrial hemp production, but the Food and Drug Administration still does not recognize CBD as a "safe" ingredient, the Detroit News says. It is derived from hemp and therefore does not contain THC that causes a "high".

In Michigan, CBD products will be available in 92 of its 120 stores.

CBD-infused products will not be available at OH stores due to state regulations prohibiting the sale of hemp-derived CBD products.
