Mike Huckabee: Sarah Sanders running for Arkansas governor 'could happen'

"I am trying to get her to do that".

Mike Huckabee told FOX Business he won't rule out the possibility of his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, advancing her political aspirations. She plans to return to her home state of Arkansas and contemplate a run for governor there in 2022.

"After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas..."

President Donald Trump hugs White House press secretary Sarah Sanders as he pauses from speaking about second chance hiring to publicly thank the outgoing press secretary in the East Room of the White House in Washington on June 13, 2019.

And on Late Night with Seth Meyers, host Seth Meyers poked Sarah Huckabee Sanders by saying, "She'll leave the way she usually does, in the middle of someone's question".

"They're a lot of great people and sometimes you have so many that it makes it more hard", he added.

Announcing her exit, Trump tweeted warm praise: "She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job". Aside from her experience working for a president who remains popular in Arkansas, she'd have name recognition and experience that goes back to former Gov. Mike Huckabee's first run for office almost three decades ago, GOP leaders say. I love the President. "And, in the meantime, I'm going to continue to be one of the most outspoken and loyal supporters of the President and his agenda", she said.

Although Sanders is often blamed for the White House's killing off of the press briefing, she has been serving a president who from the start made a decision to tear up the media playbook. Previously, she was the New York Times public editor, and the chief editor of the Buffalo News, her hometown paper.

Former press secretary Joe Lockhart wrote on CNN that Sanders' legacy would be enshrined in the Mueller report.

Some journalists defended her when she was mocked by comic Michelle Wolf at last year's White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

President Trump is one of the best-accessible presidents when it comes to engaging with reporters and their critiques are unfounded, Sean Spicer said on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle". In November, at his final rallies ahead of the congressional elections, Trump invited her on stage to speak briefly to the cheering crowds.
