O.J. Simpson joins Twitter and the Internet has mixed feelings

O.J. Simpson recorded his introduction to Twitter

The 71 year old's first post appeared late Friday and the account has already garnered more than 171,000 followers.

Former National Football League (NFL) running back OJ Simpson chose to join Twitter on Saturday, which marked the 25th anniversary of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson's, death.

"Hey Twitter world this is yours truly", Simpson declares in a video posted at his new account. "I've got a lot of getting even to do", the ex-jailbird says, smiling to the camera. Now coming soon to Twitter you'll get to read all my thoughts and opinions about everything.

"This'll be a lot of fun".

Since his release from prison in 2017, OJ Simpson had kept a pretty low profile. "So God bless, take care". And Monday is the 25th anniversary of the slow-speed chase that captured a nation's attention as TV viewers watched Simpson evade police in a white Ford Bronco before surrendering on two murder charges.

A decade later, Simpson was found guilty and sentenced to up to 33 years in prison for a 2007 kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas.

Reaction to Simpson joining Twitter was mixed, with many users chiming in with puns alluding to the notorious murder case.

"Nice to see you taking a stab at this Twitter thing instead of your wife for once", one wrote. We're going to go out on a limb and say that Twitter isn't the only place where Simpson opens his mouth/communicates.
