Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny refuses to join pre-season tour

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel on the club's pre-season tour of the United States

Arsenal chiefs have been made well aware of Koscielny's desire to leave in the past week, but he is demanding that they release him on a free transfer - something the Gunners will not agree to.

After the rather shocking news that Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal's captain, had refused to join the Gunners on their pre-season tour, there's been an update from France on where he could end up.

Koscielny's future at Arsenal is reportedly in doubt after entering the final year of his contract with no sign of a new deal.

An official statement on the club's website read: "We are very disappointed by Laurent's actions, which are against our clear instructions".

Heading into his second campaign as manager Emery was counting on Koscielny, whose present contract expires in June 2020, but the Tulle-born forward has unilaterally chose to skip their United States trip. "We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time", the statement continued.

Koscielny is said to be keen to leave the Emirates this summer, with reports indicating the Frenchman is interested on a return to Ligue 1.

This decision from Koscielny will no doubt have a huge impact on the locker room.

Arsenal are close to finalising a £27million deal for Saint Etienne centre-back William Saliba, but it is thought he will be loaned back to the French outfit for the 19/20 campaign.

- Who has qualified for Europe from the Premier League?

What a mess. Koscielny hasn't conducted himself well here, and Arsenal putting this out in the open has escalated the seriousness of the situation.
