Chargers' Gordon wants trade if no extension

Melvin Gordon

Gordon reportedly received an extension offer from the Chargers that did not align with the contracts of other top running backs such as Le'Veon Bell and Todd Gurley. Time has gone by, and Gordon has yet to sign a deal. The Pro Bowler told the Chargers to either give him a new contract or find him a new home on Thursday, and the situation may spill over into training camp.

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon plans to hold out of to Los Angeles' training camp and demand a trade if he does not receive a new contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gordon, who was the No. 15 overall pick of the 2015 National Football League draft, is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which calls for him to earn $5.6 million this season. Gordon also had 490 receiving yards to go along with four receiving touchdowns.

Gordon, who was the 15th overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, came to the Chargers with the expectation that he could provide the missing link to a potent offense after rushing for 2,587 yards his senior season at Wisconsin.

This is likely a small ripple in the AFC West pond given that the Chargers would be foolish to let Gordon walk. Gordon has only played in all 16 games once in his four seasons, and has missed nine total games over his career. If that happens, here are three potential trade destinations to watch out for.
