Court sympathetic to House in records fight with Trump

President Trump is an avid social media user but he has also come down hard on Big Tech. He's hosting a social media summit on Thursday and some of his biggest supporters on social media will attend

For Trump, the conference represented his highest profile broadside yet against Silicon Valley after months of accusations that tech giants censor conservative users and websites.

Representatives from Facebook and Twitter were not invited, CNN reported.

"We hardly do press releases anymore because if I put out on social media a statement, like I'm going to in a little while and something totally unrelated but a very important statement, now they're going insane", explained the USA president.

In his 50-minute address, Trump reflected on some of the spelling and punctuation mistakes he has made on Twitter, bemoaning how they are jumped on by the media.

Facebook, Google and Twitter each declined comment.

Mr Trump has meanwhile found himself the victim of online ridicule after saying that the kidney "has a very special place in the heart" after signing an executive order directing his administration to develop policies addressing kidney-related health issues among Americans.

Unfortunately, social media companies don't always do a good job of explaining why users were banned.

During Thursday's summit, Trump also crowed about how engagement on his tweets explodes "like a rocket" after he posts them - as opposed to more traditional White House press releases.

That was the U.S. president's boast at the White House's first social media summit on Thursday, during which he delivered a speech doubling down on claims that Twitter and Facebook are rife with "terrible bias".

"I am not speaking for 'our side.' You could be some of the most liberal people in the world in this audience, and I don't care", Trump told the assembled guests in the East Room on Thursday.

Trump's attacks often have come in response to efforts by Facebook, Google and Twitter to remove hate speech, threats of violence and other troubling content from their platforms. Despite his prevalent use of Twitter, Trump surmised he would have probably become president even without using it.

"After the 2016 election Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon (in advertising) decided the best way to prevent another Trump win was to silence conservative voices in America", according to a statement from the Gateway Pundit site. "We hope to see transparency, more accountability and more freedom".

Numerous attendees have increasingly accused social media companies of attempting to hamper their growth and reach.

Elise Rhodes, a Parler spokeswoman, said that although the president did not mention the company directly, he "said he is interested in exploring other platforms that support free speech". Frank Pallone, who leads the House's top tech committee.
