Denise Nickerson played Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Nickerson, 62, best known for the of Violet Beauregarde in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, has been in the care of her son Josh and his wife Jasmine since she suffered the stroke past year.

Nickerson's son and his wife Jasmine also created a GoFundMe page where the couple is posting updates on Nickerson's health, where they reported that she had suffered from seizures shortly after being admitted into the hospital and later entered a "coma-like" state.

They wrote: "She has random and semi-frequent seizures, but their intensity has grown far less severe as the day has progressed".

Movie favourite Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Prior to her death, they said she had been given morphine "to keep her pain free and slow her breathing".

The US actress, who suffered a severe stroke previous year, died after having multiple seizures and being taken off life support.

She appeared in more than 70 episodes of Dark Shadows, 130 episodes of The Electric Company and had a role in The Brady Bunch.


Nickerson was a child actress when she played Violet Beauregarde, the girl who blows up into a large blueberry shape after breaking factory rules, in the 1971 musical film with Gene Wilder.

She added, 'The temporary feeding tube was also removed (by her own doing is entirely plausible) so she's not as agitated'.

When they came back home and realized what happened they rushed her to the ER where her condition worsened. "At some point during this event, she aspirated, and caught pneumonia".

"He's never really experienced a major loss like this", she wrote.

The pair continued: "Denise's wish is to be cremated and her ashes made into a piece of glass art. Even if you can't donate simply sharing the link, and sharing our story so we can send Denise off and get some help and peace over the next few months would be so incredible". She left the industry in 1978 to pursue nursing, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
