Novak Djokovic overcomes plucky Bautista Agut to reach Wimbledon final

Little details will make difference in Roger Federer Nadal match- Roig

The Federer-Nadal semifinal was to follow shortly on Centre Court, and thousands of tennis fans jammed onto the large hill on the grounds of the All England Club to watch a reprise of the 2008 Wimbledon final on an oversize TV screen.

One match point slipped away when Federer missed a forehand return. He reached his sixth final at the grass-court major by beating 23rd-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 earlier Friday.

Federer is impeccable on his serve as ever.

"I am sad for the loss because for me it was another opportunity", said Nadal, who was also beaten in the semi-finals a year ago by Djokovic. Nadal, the man who sported slick long hair back in 2008 is now balding, while Federer has the wrinkles of a man that has been chased by everyone in the sport for the best part of two decades.

One Twitter user wrote: 'Hearing that Roberto Bautista Agut has had to cancel his stag do, which was planned for this weekend, because he's made it further than expected has made me want him to win today even more'. But the 31-year-old Bautista Agut held his nerve to eventually level the semi-final at 6-4 off a fortuitous net cord. "I got a bit tight and it was a very important probably first four or five games of the second set".

However, Federer said he won't be over-awed by the challenge as he chases a 21st major and Djokovic targets a 16th.

Nadal had two chances to break straight back but Federer saved them, the master attacker showing his rival that he, too, can defend as if his life depended on it. But Federer won the set 6-4 to take the match. The Swiss great finished with 14 aces this time and landed 69% of his first serves.

If their routes to the semi-final are anything to go by, the third seed appears to be in better form.

After a first set featuring just one break point, both players were forced to save two apiece in the opening stages of the second set as the shackles came off, and Nadal went on to break Federer to love in the fourth game. "Rafa played some unbelievable shots to stay in the match, it was a very high level", said Federer.

For those interested, here's the Grand Slam singles title tally: Federer has 20, Nadal has 18 and Djokovic has 15.

But he hit back swiftly in the third set, breaking Nadal for the first time after winning the point of the match with a breathtaking backhand volley in the fourth game. After Nadal wasted that chance, Federer earned two more match points - and failed to convert those, either, as his wife, Mirka, peeked through the fingers covering her face. "Then the next point I wanted to play - I didn't want to take a risk on the point, to play long, to play a good rally". Federer leads the set 2-1. It's been a rock solid year of mine, I won in Halle [for a record 10th time last month], the stars are aligned right now.

He'll play either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal in what will be his 25th grand slam final.

"I am sad for the loss because for me it was another opportunity", he said.

Djokovic is a four-time champion at the All England Club and will go for another title on Sunday against Switzerland's Roger Federer.

The third-seeded pair will play No. 4 Yifan Xu and Gabriela Dabrowski, who beat Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
