Seahawks' Jarran Reed suspended six games

30 most important Seahawks in 2019 No. 4 DE Ezekiel Ansah

He is eligible to participate in training camp, which begins Thursday at team headquarters.

The NFL suspended Seattle Seahawks standout defensive lineman Jarran Reed for the first six games of this season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The suspension is a brutal blow to the Seahawks, who were expecting a big season from Reed. Reed can then return to the team for practice on Oct. 14, following the sixth game of the season against Cleveland on Oct. 13, and can return to play on Oct. 20 against the Baltimore Ravens at CenturyLink Field. Already a huge bargain for the Seahawks, the former second-round pick will lose $418,788 of his $1.116 million salary in 2019. He is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. Before the suspension, Reed was one of the top IDP options among all defensive tackles, but with the depth at the position and the six-game suspension, Reed suddenly finds himself falling down the IDP rankings.

Reed finished second on the Seahawks in sacks in 2018 with 10.5 behind only Frank Clark, who has since been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 16 regular season games, Reed posted 50 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

Seattle signed veteran free agents Al Woods and Jamie Meder in the offseason and each now looms as more critical players to help get the Seahawks through Reed's suspension.

Reed was a two-year contributor at Alabama from 2014-15 after arriving as a four-star JUCO product.
