Spurs agree to 2-year deal with Trey Lyles

BOSTON MA- APRIL 14 Marcus Morris #13 of the Boston Celtics reacts during Game One of the first round of the 2019 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Indiana Pacers at TD Garden

NY reportedly offered Morris a one-year deal worth $15 million. While it may seem Morris turned down more money, the second year of the deal with San Antonio was a player option, essentially making it a one-year deal for Morris.

Lyles averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 64 games (two starts) for the Nuggets last season. The swingman whose uncertain health led to a series of last-minute deal changes over the course of the past week.

According to the Post's report, the Knicks have offered Morris a one-year deal worth $14.8 million, which not only may be enticing for the per-year salary but also for chance for Morris and his agent, Rich Paul, to get into the NY market.

That unanticipated turn of events opened up cap space for NY that enabled them to make the offer, putting San Antonio in a tough position, having made moves to send big Davis Bertans to the Washington Wizards to facilitate the addition of Mook - all while watching quality free agent alternatives sign elsewhere. "This is no knock on the Spurs".

San Antonio reportedly signed Lyles to a two-year contract. But, he's reportedly reconsidering signing that contract and may land with NY instead.

Agent David Bauman and the Knicks are reevaluating Bullock's fitness to play a full season in 2019-20. After failing to land alleged main targets Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Gotham City-based squad is shaping up to be an entirely different and competitive team heading into the 2019-20 National Basketball Association season.

Morris had waffled on a two-year, $20 million commitment to the Spurs, who gave him more than two days to reconsider the decommitment before striking a deal with Lyles, league sources said.

"Our plan wasn't to create $70 million in room to go after free agents this summer", Knicks president Steve Mills told the Undefeated last month. "The (salary cap) space was a byproduct of that".
