‘They Can’t Stop All of Us’: Thousands planning to storm Area 51

Signage on the highly guarded perimeter of Area 51 in Nevada

If you'll be in Nevada on September 20, there's a Facebook event that may pique your interest.

Over 400,000 people have committed to a Facebook event pledging to "Storm Area 51" in September in an effort to 'see them aliens.' Event organizers say the planned raid will take place on September 20 at 3 a.m.

The mysterious Area 51 has been the focus of conspiracy theories for decades, and many people think it's where the USA government stores its secrets about aliens and UFOs.

If you've ever wanted to see alien life for yourself, the opportunity may have arrived. In 2013, the Central Intelligence Agency officially acknowledged the existence of Area 51 by declassifying documents detailing the history of both the U-2 and OXCART projects.

Since 2013 the USA government has acknowledged that Area 51 is a military site, but has never revealed what types of operations go on there. It is not clear exactly how many people, if anyone, will actually show up to lead a blitzkrieg on the Nellis Air Force Base Complex, which houses the land containing Area 51. For years there have been rumors that the base is holding aliens and UFOs.

"We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry", reads a brief description of the event, which was created by popular video game streamer SmyleeKun.

The call to action is, of course, satire (hopefully), since Area 51 is infamously secured by barbed fences, radar and heavily armed military personnel. I just thought it would be amusing and get me some thumbsy uppies on the internet.

Although signs around the base state that the guards are prepared to use deadly force against trespassers, those who will illegally enter or approach the area will most likely be slapped with a hefty fine. The US Airforce also has a highly classified base in the area, which has only served to fuel the UFO speculation. Only the driver was charged.
