Total solar eclipse darkens skies across South America

Solar Eclipse 2019 Date Time Everything You Need to Know

People even avoid chopping vegetables, fruits and other food items while the solar eclipse is happening. You might be able to catch the unbelievable natural phenomenon live on your television screen in India.

If don't live in South America, you will not be able to see Tuesday's total solar eclipse with your naked eyes. The zodiac's Crab is all about security, and this new moon asks us all to examine: What does "home" mean to you?

Tomorrow (July 2), a dramatic total solar eclipse - the only one to take place during 2019 - will darken skies over South America, providing viewers with a spectacular view of the sun as the moon crosses in front of it and casts its shadow on the ground below.

The eclipse is expected to make its first landfall in Chile at 3:22 pm in La Serena (5:22 am AEST), a city of 200,000 people.

NASA has partnered with Exploratorium and also will have different livestreams available: Live telescope views without audio from 3pm to 6pm EDT and an English-language programme from 4 to 5pm.

You can view that broadcast on the museum's website or through their free app for iOS or Android.

Though the eclipse can not be seen from India, several online platforms are available to witness the event.

The European Southern Observatory will stream its own live coverage of the event from its facility in the Atacama Desert in Chile. No matter what superstitions you've heard, there is no risk to your health due to simply being outside during a total solar eclipse. A partial eclipse was also viewable from parts of South America, Europe and West Africa.

Space.com reporter Hanneke Weitering is now sending updates from Chile, where she will be "chasing totality" on the day of the eclipse, driving 90 miles (150 kilometers) from La Serena to La Silla Observatory in La Higuera.

Because the Moon's orbit is not perfectly in line with the Sun and Earth, its shadow usually passes above or below Earth. Four teams will study the Sun's elusive corona and one team will study eclipse effects on the Earth itself, NSF Program Director David Boboltz said in a statement.

Why the world is highly excited about the July 2 solar eclipse A total solar eclipse will happen when the sun, moon and earth come in a straight line in such a fashion that the moon's position will block the sun's rays falling on the earth. Partial solar eclipse in India is likely to begin around 10.25 pm IST, whereas the total solar eclipse will begin around 11.54 pm IST.

How to watch July 2019 total solar eclipse livestream in India?

Mr McClure said: "Numerous Pacific islands, on the other hand, can observe a partial solar eclipse - but, once again, we stress the need for proper eye protection". Unfortunately, the solar eclipse won't be visible in India. However, the weather forecasting firm cautions "some clouds are possible".
