Alisson injury: Chelsea, Arsenal & the games Liverpool's goalkeeper will miss

Alisson Becker

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp says he expects goalkeeper Alisson's calf injury to keep him on the sidelines for "the next few weeks", starting with Wednesday's Super Cup game against Chelsea.

The goalie was injured while kicking a ball in Liverpool's 4-1 win over Norwich City.

"[It's] not too cool. It's a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while", Klopp told Liverpool's official site.

'So that's a very experienced solution but in the moment when Caoimhin is back then obviously Adrian is No.1, Caoimhin probably No.2 but we have to see how then he can have some games with the U23s or U21s [so] that he gets match practice as well'. It takes a while, it takes a couple of weeks for sure, and we have to see.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has no qualms about Adrian replacing Alisson in the Liverpool goals.

Liverpool need to quickly sign another goalkeeper to provide backup to Adrian as the Merseyside club have several key games coming up, and can't go into these games with just one fully fit keeper in the squad.

Yet while Andy Lonergan is set to join Liverpool to plug the gap in their keeper line-up, Klopp has offered warm words of support for 20-year-old Kelleher, as he closes in on a return to action after a wrist problem sustained during pre-season.

Regardless, Alisson's injury will be a massive blow for the Reds, with the star shot-stopper a huge part of their European glory and Premier League runners-up status last season. I didn't speak to [goalkeeping coach] John [Achterberg] yet about that.

It's obviously odd playing them overseas, but I think every game is different and we'll go out there with a desire to win. He's a brilliant character, a really nice lad and helped us a lot in the pre-season and now we made a decision to work together with him'.

Alisson's loss for an extended period would be a big blow to the club he joined from Roma past year.

The German, however, later admitted that the goalkeeper would be out 'for a few weeks' with his calf injury and dismissed the possibility that he would be absent for more than six weeks.
