Body found in hunt for Franco-Irish teen in Malaysia

Nora Quoirin has been missing since August 4

The London teenager, who has special needs, disappeared from the jungle resort of Dusun on Sunday August 4.

Her body was airlifted by helicopter out of the ravine - about 2.5 kilometres (1.5 miles) from the resort - after which it was transported to hospital and identified by her relatives.

The following day, missing persons charity The Lucie Blackman Trust said the Malaysian police were treating Nora's disappearance as a potential abduction, but officers on the ground denied any foul play.

The Lucie Blackman Trust, which was set up in the wake of the murder of a British hostess in Japan in 2000, said: "At this time we can not confirm it is Nora".

On Tuesday evening, former Northern Ireland police detective Jim Gamble, said: "We need to give the family time and if that happens over the next week, we will potentially learn more about Nora's final journey". But a pathologist is still working to determine the cause of death, Matt Searle, the spokesman, said.

A body has been found in the search for missing British teenager Nora Quoirin, who went missing from her hotel room at a jungle resort in Malaysia. "She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking", her mother said.

Two crowdfunding appeals had been launched to help in the search, one by Nora's Irish aunt, Aisling Agnew and another by Pacome Quoirin, her French uncle. "We will always love our Nora".

Appearing in front of the cameras on Monday, a visibly emotional Mrs Quoirin said: "Nora is our first child".

Her body was found unclothed by a group of hikers who had joined the tenth day of a widespread search operation across the perilous terrain.

Malaysia's deputy police chief Mazlan Mansor said the body was found beside a stream in a "quite hilly" area of plantation, and was "not in any clothing".

The teenager had been vulnerable since birth, never went out alone and had limited verbal communication skills, her family said last week, adding that she had visited many countries in Asia and Europe but never before wandered off.

On Monday, the mother, Meabh Quoirin, announced a 50,000 ringgit ($11,900) reward, donated by a Belfast-based business, for information that directly helps police find her daughter.

Police from Ireland, France and the United Kingdom also assisted in support of her parents, with mom Meabh originally from Ireland and dad Sebastien Quoirin from France.

The Daily Mirror reports that the location of Nora's body "raised questions" about why she had not been spotted before.

Police said they sent officials to a waterfall near Gunung Berembun in the Pantai Hills after receiving a call from a member of the public.

The search involved more than 300 personnel including from the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Metropolitan Police and the Malaysian police.
