In this Sunday, July 28, 2019 photo provided by Epic games, Kyle Giersdorf reacts after he won the Fortnite World Cup solo finals in NY.

The teen who took home $3 million after winning the Fortnite World Cup last month was swatted while streaming the video game from his home.

Pennsylvania police told ESPN that the Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Department received a call from someone pretending to be Giersdorf, claiming that he had killed his father and tied up his mother.

"Yeah, I got swatted".

"Swatting" is the act of falsely reporting a crime to police in an effort to get a SWAT team or a large police response to come to an unsuspecting victim's home. "The guy comes in and I notice him - they come in with guns. that was scary. They literally pulled up", Bughha said once he returned to the stream. He is also all of 16 years old, and so a threat against him also involved his parents, whose personal information may have been easy to find.

Fortunately, the 16-year-old World Cup Winner avoided anything serious, thanks in some part to one of the attending officers recognising Bugha due to living in the same neighbourhood. A subsequent clip captured the streamer's return and explanation of events: "Yeah, I got swatted. Jesus Christ, the internet's f**king insane".

FWIW - Bugha's friends won the game while the swatting was going down. Albert Werner said, adding that he believed the initial call came from Europe. Barriss called Wichita police from Los Angeles on December 28, 2017, to falsely report a shooting and kidnapping at that Wichita address.

Giersdorf, who plays under the name Bugha, disappeared for 10 minutes while the game was live-streamed on Twitch.

Authorities said Finch, who appeared to have no connection to the prank caller, was shot by a Wichita police officer.
