K-pop group BTS to take 'extended' break from performing

BTS members play many instruments

K-pop superstars BTS will take a "long-term break" from the music scene, their agency said Monday, after the boy band topped charts in the USA and Britain earlier this year.

Fans around the world embraced the news - 20 minutes after Big Hit Entertainment posted the statement regarding BTS' vacation, #happyvacationbts was trending on Twitter.

Big Hit entertainment just released an announcement that BTS members will be taking an official and long period of rest and relaxation for the first time since their debut.

Fans were extremely supportive of the vacation time for the band, which marks their first official break since their debut in 2013.

While other Korean labels have been fighting desperate rearguard actions after a gang of high-profile K-popsters were netted in a sordid sex, drugs, rape and prostitution scandal centered around now-defunct Gangnam nightclub Burning Sun, Big Hit and their star act have remained well above the fray.

During this time, the members will rest and recharge in their own personal ways.

Some 21.3 million Twitter fans wished them well on their break, with one writing: "Thank you for traveling the world to make millions of people happy and love themselves, now please rest well and stay healthy".

The power break will provide "an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentlessly driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators".

BTS has a large global following and was the first K-pop act to debut atop the Billboard Album chart a year ago with "Love Yourself: Tear".

The agency for K-pop superstars BTS says the singers will take an extended break from showbiz to rest and relax and "enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly". "I hope they take their time to freshen up enjoying what they have achieved after all those years of hard work".
