National Football League won't budge as Antonio Brown threatens to sit over helmet

Antonio Brown Isn't Going to Like the NFL's Official Statement on His Helmet

Schutt has discontinued making the helmet and it is no longer certified by the National Operating Committee for Standards & Athletic Equipment.

Brown, who last week reportedly threatened to retire if his helmet was not approved, does not appear to be going through with it. "If he doesn't play or practice he is in breach of his contract and doesn't get paid".

The report said the AIR Advantage hasn't been produced since 2011, so that gives Brown a two-year window of helmets that would still abide by the NFL's rules.

The wide receiver is looking into whether he could find a version of his preferred-style helmet that is less than 10 years old to see if that would be acceptable, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

On Monday, Adam Schefter tweeted that an arbitrator ruled against Brown's grievance to wear his old helmet.

Brown has tried the new certified helmet out and believes it protrudes out and interferes with his vision as he tries to catch the football. Since the start of organized team activities in May, he has worn a Vicis helmet.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden spoke about Brown following Saturday's preseason game.

Gruden played it cool and played it perfectly on Saturday night, offering Brown full support on the helmet issue while absolving him of wrong doing as it relates to his odd foot injury. I can't say I agree with all of them, certainly, but I support this guy.

"We understand the league's position as well, so we're in a tough spot, and we hope Antonio is here soon because he's exciting to be around".

If all goes as planned Brown will be back at practice tomorrow and we'll learn all about it at 10:00 PM in the second episode of HBO's Hard Knocks.
