Former "American Idol" contestant Haley Smith was killed in ME over the weekend when she crashed her motorcycle, according to a report.

The single-vehicle accident took place in the town of Millinocket at 2 a.m. on Saturday, the Millinocket Police Department confirms to PEOPLE. According to the outlet, "Police say it appears she failed to make a sharp turn along a residential road that becomes a highway in certain sections". The outlet reported he implied that she was a skilled rider who wouldn't have lost control of her vehicle. "A female operating a motorcycle crashed on Medway Road in Millinocket, which resulted in her death".


She was 21 when she appeared in season 11 of "American Idol" in 2012.

In a pre-recorded interview airing before her American Idol audition, Haley, then 18, described herself as a vegetarian who "worked in the meat department" as a nature lover, saying, "It's where I feel more at peace, you could say". "Although Smith didn't make it past the second Hollywood round, the judges were impressed with her audition, where Lopez remarked that she had a "'60s, '70s vibe".
