Apple Arcade gaming subscription coming September 19 for $4.99/month

Apple Arcade launch date and price finally revealed

Today, the company announced that Apple Arcade, its long-awaited "Netflix for games", will arrive on September 19th and cost $4.99 per month. The firm launched the product earlier this year in March as a way of leveraging its large app store to capture the attention of gamers. And, if you're not convinced by the concept just yet, there will be a one-month free trial for everyone.

Taking a lead over Disney that is likely to unveil Disney+ service on November 12 for $6.99 a month, Apple TV+ will offer a powerful and inspiring line-up of original shows, movies and documentaries, including "The Morning Show", "Dickinson", "See", "For All Mankind" and "The Elephant Queen".

First revealed at WWDC 2019, Apple Arcade promises to grant you with access to over 100 new and exclusive games in 150 countries and regions.

"We think customers of all ages are going to be delighted that a single subscription gives the whole family unlimited access to the full catalogue of incredible Apple Arcade games, all without any ads or additional purchases, while knowing every game must meet Apple's high privacy standards". The service also launches for Apple TV on September 30 and MacOS Catalina in October, giving those platforms a lot more to play with as well.

If you've been waiting for an Apple Arcade sub to get your game on, you'll have just 9 days to go. For a monthly fee, players can have access to a library of games that they can play across their Apple devices.

At today's event, Apple showed off three games. "We think customers of all ages are going to be delighted that a single subscription gives the whole family unlimited access to the full catalog of wonderful Apple Arcade games, all without any ads or additional purchases, while knowing every game must meet Apple's high privacy standards".

Aside from that, the Apple Watch Series 5 will look pretty much the same as Series 4, with the same all-day, 18-hour battery life as previous models. Helping game developers produce and promote top-notch games for its platforms is a fantastic first step.

While an internet connection is required to download the games, games can then be played online or offline, ad-free. Current Apple device owners won't be grandfathered into the deal. However, Apple noted that some seasons will be available all at once.

So, even though Apple Arcade has launched ahead of Google Stadia, it's unlikely to accumulate the same level of interest.
