California and Alabama attorneys general are the only ones that will not be involved in the antitrust investigation. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will reportedly lead the Google investigation, which will focus on Google's advertising markets and whether Google's dominance in the ad markets harms competition.

Paxton said they have evidence that the tech company's business practices undermine consumer choice, stifled innovation, violated people's privacy, and placed Google in control of the flow and dissemination of information on the internet.

The attorneys general agreed, saying Google search results are skewed toward its own products and those of advertisers rather than the best information.

On Monday, over fifty U.S states' attorney generals announced an anti-trust investigation against Google. "We will go where the facts lead us to both protect our consumers and to ensure a free and competitive market".

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge called Google's online search engine a "juggernaut", and argued that a free search sometimes came at the cost of the freedom to choose the best products from the best companies.

The states' investigation arrives as the Department of Justice and FTC also are scrutinizing Big Tech, and DOJ has taken early interest in Google.

Google's parent Alphabet said on Friday the Department of Justice in late August requested information and documents related to prior antitrust probes of the company.

As reported by The Washington Post, numerous state attorneys general (AG) announced the far-reaching investigation outside of the Supreme Court in Washington D.C. It's been confirmed that there will be an astounding 50 attorneys general (AG) participating in the probe.

"If Google has gained its advantages in the marketplace through free and fair competition, then let the chips fall where they will", said Hill.

"I'm heartened to see a new group of attorneys general with the courage to stand up to these powerful companies and fight for citizens".

Google controls about 37% of digital ad spending in the US, ahead of No. 2 Facebook at 22%, according to EMarketer. But, Brnovich's office says none of the previous investigations fully addressed Google's serial and repeated business practices created to protect and maintain their industry dominance.

Reached for comment, Google only pointed to a blog post it issued last week written by Senior Vice President of Global Affairs Kent Walker. An antitrust investigation like this could run parallel with a federal case, causing considerable headaches for Google. The company dominates the market with its search business, its ownership of Adsense, which sells ads, and in videos ads through YouTube, which Google also owns.

Historically, the United States has lagged Europe and other countries when it comes to regulating the tech companies.
