Couple Spends $120k Mistakenly Deposited into Their Account

The husband and wife were hit with felony charges of receiving stolen property and theft on Tuesday for blowing through just over $107,000 - on a $14,500 Chevrolet SUV, a race vehicle, two four-wheelers and $15,000 in payments to friends, among other things - after their area BB&T bank teller accidentally deposited $120,000 on May 31, state police records show.

All instructed, they spent US$100,000 in about 2 1/2 weeks, WNEP reported.

State police say the Williams bought an SUV, two four-wheelers, a camper, a auto trailer.

Rather than checking with the bank on the nature of the deposit, the pair allegedly spent more than $100,000 on a number of household items, including a $15,000 down payment on a 2015 Chevy Traverse, two four-wheelers for about $10,000, a $4,500 camper and a race auto.

Police issued a statement saying "During the investigation, the Williams admitted they were aware that the money deposited in their account did not belong to them and that they had made numerous purchases with that money".

At remaining, despite the very fact that, the bank contacted them on or around June 20 after sending the money to potentially the most tasty yarn. Before the massive deposit, the couple averaged about $1,100 in their account, the Sun-Gazette reports. They were arrested under the charges of theft and receiving stolen property and released after signing a bond of 25,000$ (INR 17,92,962) each.

BB&T then contacted Mrs Williams to tell her that she and her husband would be required to pay the cash back.

A Pennsylvania couple landed themselves in hot water after they allegedly spent $120,000 that was accidentally deposited into their bank account.

State police say the teller is thought to have put the cash in the wrong account around 31 May. Once the mistake was caught, the bank transferred it to the right account.

Bank officials called state police in July after attempts to communicate with the couple were unsuccessful.

"That is kind of shocking, with all the procedures the banks have set up, checking and double-checking and triple-checking, there's no way anybody gets away with that stuff", Nate Weaver, a neighbor of the Williams', told WNEP. Tiffany said she and her husband would work on a payment plan.
