Dave Dombrowski fired by Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski answers a reporter's question during a baseball news conference at Fenway Park in Boston Thursday Nov. 1 2018

"They just told me, so I'm not ready to talk about it".

The Red Sox have no plans to formally discuss the firing of Dave Dombrowski, who was dismissed shortly before midnight Sunday into Monday.

With Dave Dombrowski's contract running through the 2020 season, which way will the Red Sox go in terms of looking for a new GM?

Right-hander Rick Porcello's career has been tied to Dombrowski's as much as any player. They broke through past year by winning it all.

An indictment of Dombrowski at his stops prior to Boston was his willingness to gut the feeder system in exchange for acquiring veteran talent.

"I'm still processing everything, processing myself, too", Porcello said.

What have you done for me lately? "It's one of those things that caught me".

Team spokesman Kevin Gregg informed the media of the news roughly 10 minutes after the underachieving defending World Series champions took a 10-5 loss to the Yankees.

It's unclear if Ferreira (or any of the other top-ranking Red Sox executives) will have the opportunity to hold Dombrowski's old post for the long haul.

The move comes nearly immediately after Boston dropped the third game of a four-game set against the New York Yankees on Sunday night.

The Red Sox followed with three straight AL East titles - a first in franchise history, winning a club-record 108 games last season and their fourth World Series since 2004. Price re-upped with the team after the World Series and the trio combined will cost Boston almost $80 million per season the next three years. The misery of the present, with Boston eight games out of a playoff spot with only 19 games to go, is more of an issue.

Dombrowski landed numerous big names during his relatively short stint as president, bringing in players such as Chris Sale, Craig Kimbrel, J.D. Martinez and David Price.
