Iran urges United States to 'put warmongers aside' after Bolton firing

Rouhani says US ‘warmongering’ against Iran will fail

He helped lead the effort to apply more pressure on Iran, and frankly, his policies were working.

In June, following Trump's decision not to order a military attack on Iran after it downed an unmanned USA drone, Bolton was "devastated", said one US official familiar with the matter. But, ultimately, the president didn't follow through on Bolton's policies.

Last year, Trump pulled the US out of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal that lifted sanction on Iran in exchange for caps on Iran's nuclear program. He also reiterated that lifting US sanctions would bring Tehran back to the negotiating table with world powers, but the post to his official website detailing the call with Macron did not elaborate on what might be up for negotiation.

He added there was no room for talks with the United States while sanctions against Iran remain in place, IRNA said.

Brian Hook, the USA special representative for Iran, said last week more sanctions against Iran were coming and the United States was committed to its campaign of "maximum pressure".

Ilan Berman, senior vice president of the American Foreign Policy Council, said that Trump's neo-isolationist views and purported desire to strike diplomatic deals with long-time foes such as North Korea and Iran are at odds with the maximalist positions of Bolton, a veteran of the George W. Bush administration.

US President Donald Trump is actively considering a French plan to extend a $15 billion line of credit to Iran in return for the Islamic Republic's compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday.

His comments came after the U.S. on Tuesday announced sanctions on a "wide range of terrorists and their supporters", including Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Reacting to the move, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif derided the United States for ordering the new sanctions on the country despite Bolton's departure.

Trump, in his announcement on Twitter of Bolton's exit, said that he would soon name what will be his fourth national security advisor as early as next week. "Thirst for war -maximum pressure- should go with the warmonger-in-chief (Bolton)".

Abadi told reporters that Tehran "interprets these acts.as undue pressure on the agency" and that any attempt to "put the agency under pressure would be counterproductive".

He made the remarks while addressing the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) being held from September 9 to 13 in Vienna to discuss the IAEA's reports on "Monitoring and verification in Iran in the light of Security Council Resolution No. 2231 of 2015".

The IAEA reports still did not include information on Iran's intention to develop Naval Nuclear Propulsion Systems, Prince Abdullah said while stressing the need to clarify the objective, especially as this technology is used more in military fields.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to whom Dermer is close, opposes meetings between Trump and Iran's leaders, seeing them as a win for Iran without having to give up anything.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said immediately after that Trump might meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the United Nations general assembly this month.

Iran has already broken the limits laid down in the accord for stockpiling enriched uranium as well as the level of enrichment.
