North Korea confirms it tested a multiple rocket launcher for 2nd time

But a USA spokesperson dismissed the launch, calling the latest North Korean missiles "projectiles", perhaps because the launch came only a day after North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui proposed a resumption of talks in late September.

The South Korean military on Tuesday deliberately kept information about North Korea's latest missile launch from the public, apparently for fear of embarrassing itself if its analysis proved wrong again.

Joe Scarborough expressed shock and amazement that President Donald Trump's oval office comments from Wednesday in which he seemed to take sides with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un over his own, now-former, National Security Advisor John Bolton.

Kim also said that the latest test has finally verified aspects related to the weapon's combat operation, trajectory characteristics, accuracy and precise homing functions, adding the remaining step is to carry out a test "which is most vivid character in terms of the power of multiple rocket launcher".

Trump announced he had fired Bolton a day after North Korea signaled a new willingness to resume stalled denuclearization talks with the United States, but then conducted the latest in a spate of missile launches.

President Donald Trump has played down this year's tests.

The North Korean statement cited recent comments by US officials expressing a desire for negotiations and made no mention of any new concessions.

Kim Jong Un can spin this personnel change in Washington as a win in North Korean domestic politics. This suggests that North Korea hasn't wanted to lift its self-imposed moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests, which would certainly derail negotiations with Washington.

Trump has downplayed the latest North Korean weapons tests, saying the US never restricted short-range tests.

US -led diplomacy aimed at stripping North Korea of nuclear weapons collapsed after the second summit between Kim and President Donald Trump in Vietnam in February ended without any agreement due to disputes over USA -led sanctions on the North. Kim and Trump met again at a Korean border village in late June and agreed to resume talks.

North Korea's official media has repeatedly denounced U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and urged Trump to replace him with a "more mature" interlocutor.

In a statement issued in late August, Vice Foreign Minister Choe said that expectations of dialogue with the US are "gradually disappearing".
