Taliban attacks Kabul commando base in Afghanistan; four killed

Kabul: Rocket explodes at US embassy on 9/11 anniversary, no casualties reported

Officials said there was fighting in at least 10 provinces, with the heaviest clashes in the northern regions of Takhar, Baghlan, Kunduz and Badakhshan, where the Taliban have been pressing security forces for weeks.

"For every American who lived through that day, the September 11th attack is seared into our soul".

President Donald Trump says U.S. -Taliban talks on ending the war in Afghanistan are "dead", deeply unfortunate wording for the Afghan civilians who have been killed by the tens of thousands over nearly 18 years. Trump was to meet Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and senior Taliban leaders on Sunday at his Camp David retreat.

A rocket reportedly exploded near the USA embassy in the Afghan capital city shortly after midnight on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, AP said.

However, the radio host said Wednesday on "The Mark Levin Show" on Westtwood One, his assertion was an expression of his own opinion and not a criticism of President Trump or any particular USA official. In his address at the Pentagon memorial, Trump said, "18 years ago, the terrorists struck this citadel of power and American strength, but the enemies soon learned that they could not weaken the spirit of our people".

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Trump blamed the Taliban for the end in the deliberations after the group claimed responsibility of a terrorist attack in Kabul last week that left 12 dead, including an American soldier.

He also warned militants against ever carrying out an attack in the U.S. again.

Relatives of victims, survivors, police officers, firefighters and city leaders held a ceremony on Wednesday at Ground Zero where hijacked Al-Qaeda planes brought down the Twin Towers.

"We love you, we miss you and you will always be America's heroes", said one woman after reading out the names of her brother and cousin.

"Al Qaeda still exists, so do the Taliban". During his speech, he also explained why he cancelled his peace talks with the Taliban.

As many as 100,000 U.S. troops were in Afghanistan at the invasion's peak, and more than 2,400 have been killed.
