Tom Watson: Second referendum before general election

"If we did it we could win, whereas if we don't I fear we won't". He will say there is "no such thing as a good Brexit deal" and the Opposition's top priority must be stopping the country leaving without a withdrawal agreement.

While Labour's Jeremy Corbyn has persistently called for a general election in recent years, and particularly since Boris Johnson became Prime Minister - accusing him of having no electoral mandate - he quickly changed his mind when the PM agreed there should be a snap vote last week, deciding that now was not the time.

But should a referendum occur after a general election, Mr Watson will argue that Labour should commit "unambiguously and unequivocally" to campaign for remain.

But the only way to break the Brexit deadlock once and for all is a public vote in a referendum.

Corbyn outlined a classic left-wing Labour pitch at the Trade Union Congress (TUC), reiterating his plan to nationalise Britain's rail network and utility companies, give workers seats on company boards and protect tenants against exploitative landlords.

Pro-Remain Labour activists also hope to use the party's conference later this month to force the leadership into backing Remain under all circumstances.

Speaking in London on Wednesday, Mr Watson will say: "My experience on the doorstep tells me most of these who've deserted us more than our Brexit policy did so with deep regret and would enormously favor to occur back they just want us to acquire an unequivocal situation that whatsoever happens we are going to combat to stay, and to sound like we indicate it".

"And - of course - "remain" should and will be on the ballot paper along with a credible option to leave". "We're ready to unleash the biggest people-powered campaign we've ever seen". Labour are operating anxious of an election and only provide more dither and pointless delay.

"Prime minister: you can hide from parliament for a few weeks, but when we return we will be ready", Starmer will say.

He also accused the PM of cosying up to President Donald Trump to get a "one-sided" trade deal with the U.S. which would damage employment rights, the NHS and United Kingdom industry.

These included continued customs union membership until the question of whether to leave could be settled at a general election; and closer alignment with the EU on workers' rights and environmental standards. "Once we get out of here, there isn't any way to establishment-up Jeremy", one Labour source said.

Mr Kinnock (pictured below) was joined by more than a dozen MPs including fellow Labour member Caroline Flint, former Tory cabinet minister Rory Stewart, independent Nick Boles and Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb at the launch of "MPs for a Deal" in Portcullis House.
