1 confirmed shot in Boca Raton, law enforcement on scene

Twitter Scenes from inside Town Center Mall after reports of a possible active shooter

The person was taken to Delray Medical Center while SWAT teams continued to search the mall, 6000 Glades Rd., and evacuate shoppers.

Police responded to reports of a shooting Sunday afternoon at a shopping mall in Boca Raton, Florida and confirmed that one man had been injured and transported to a hospital.

Officers of the Boca Raton police department were on the scene of the Town Center Mall "conducting an active search of the area", police said in a Twitter alert, adding that members of the public should avoid the vicinity.

The police chief of a Florida city where a mall was placed on an hourslong lockdown after reports of shots fired says authorities found no immediate evidence of any shooting and are now treating what happened as a "suspicious incident".

Evacuation procedures were ongoing as of about 6 p.m. ET. Other online posts showed footage of people hurrying away on foot. Police saw the trauma injury, but they said they now believe it was caused by the person running into a door.

"A lot of people have been waiting patiently to get out", he said of those who sheltered in the mall until police gave the all-clear Sunday night.

Police are asking anyone with information to call in with tips.
