Blizzard Is 'Assessing' How To Proceed Following Hong Kong Controversy

Mei and

Twitch star Jeremy "Disguised Toast" Wang has made an interesting promise to his fans regarding Hearthstone if Blizzard decides to reverse their decision to ban Grandmaster player Chung "Blitzchung" Ng for supporting the Hong Kong protests. "While we stand by one's right to express individual thoughts and opinions, players and other participants that elect to participate in our esports competition must abide by the official competition rules", Blizzard explained.

The company claimed that the gamer had violated Hearthstone Grandmasters' official competition rules, which prohibits participants in engaging in acts that will bring them into public disrepute, offend the public, or damage Blizzard's image.

Blizzard's actions had far-reaching consequences, with people supporting Blitzchung's statements in support of the Hong Kong protestors.

"Blitzchung's actions to support Hong Kong speak to me far more than I could have imagined".

The firestorm engulfing gaming giant Blizzard Entertainment is deepening as players and staff are speaking out against the USA video game-maker's suspension of a high-profile professional gamer who expressed sympathies for protesters rallying for the last four months in Hong Kong.

"There's an issue affecting the site which our engineers are now's a priority for us to have this resolved", one of its North America accounts tweeted.

Additionally, one of the most recognisable telecasters for Hearthstone, Brian Kibler, who was due to commentate at BlizzCon in November, has pulled out of commentating at the Grandmasters Finals, Blizzcon and future Blizzard events following the punishment handed to Chung. Both expressed their disappointment in Blizzard but want to continue working with the company moving forward, despite their ideological differences. I am opposed to Blizzard's fear of China and the silencing of Blitzchung.

That kind of appeasement is simply not something I can in good conscience be associated with.

This statue is also surrounded by a runed compass that has Blizzard's eight core values at its points: Gameplay first; Commit to Quality; Play Nice / Play Fair; Embrace you Inner Geek; Every Voice Matters; Think Globally; Lead Responsibly; Learn and Grow. Marco Rubio (R-FL) have condemned Blizzard's decision.

"Blizzard shows it is willing to humiliate itself to please the Chinese Communist Party", Wyden tweeted. "No American company should censor calls for freedom to make a quick buck".

Facing considerable pushback from its customers, though, Blizzard may be regretting its decision.

Blizzard is just the latest American company to have its relationship with China come under scrutiny. Morey later apologized and deleted the tweet, but the situation has strained the league's relationship with China.
