Graham says Ukraine call has nothing impeachable

Trump has called the inquiry a partisan "witch hunt", and released a summary transcript of his July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a bid at damage control.

President Trump's counsel sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and chairpersons of three committees in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. Now they are stating outright that the president "personally ordered the obstruction of a lawful Congressional inquiry".

President Trump claimed that he would have loved to let Sondland testify, but it just wasn't possible because Republicans don't have any rights in a "totally compromised kangaroo court".

- Reporters will have the opportunity to question Trump over the White House response to the impeachment inquiry when the president participates in a Roosevelt Room event at 3:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, Trump said his request for Ukraine's assistance to look into Biden's dealings was meant to investigate alleged corruption, not to look for information on a political opponent.

"Unlike Ambassador Volker, however, you have refused to produce to the committees these highly relevant documents from your non-official electronic messaging systems", they wrote.

Sondland had already flown to Washington from Brussels for the deposition, according to his lawyer, who added that he is ready to testify "on short notice".

The eight-page letter comes hours after the Trump administration blocked an ambassador from speaking in a Congressional hearing. Trump has rejected the allegations. Sondland had previously said on Ukrainian television that Trump had given him a "special assignment" to oversee relations between the two countries, the New York Times reported.

"Mr. President, you are not above the law".

"The president has been crystal clear no quid pro quo's of any kind".

"August had been a challenge for the party's rank-and-file", The Intercept's Ryan Grim reported last month, "as activists and angry citizens back home browbeat them at town halls, grocery stores, and local events for the party's unwillingness to impeach President Donald Trump. I suggest we stop the back and forth by text", Sondland wrote.

"I think [Trump] really wants the deliverable", Sondland wrote. Previous witnesses have been career officials, including the former US special envoy for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, and Michael Atkinson, the inspector general of the US Intelligence Community. It alleges that Sondland attended meetings in Kiev with Volker, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials to discuss on how to "navigate" Trump's demands and the different messages they were receiving from "official US channels on the one hand and from [Trump's personal lawyer Rudy] Giuliani on the other".
