Jane Fonda plans move to Washington - to get arrested

Jane Fonda talks to a crowd of protestors during a global climate rally at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 20 2019

"We cannot continue to stand for this".

Fonda added, "I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore - and even worse - empower - the industries that are destroying our planet for profit".

"I'm going to take my body, which is kind of famous and popular right now because of the [Netflix] series [Grace and Frankie] and I'm going to go to D.C. and I'm going to have a rally every Friday", Fonda said in an interview with the Post.

Jane Fonda was arrested on Friday in Washington, D.C. during a climate change protest, Variety has confirmed.

Fonda was getting involved in protests against inaction on climate change, citing inspiration from the 16-year-old student activist Greta Thunberg.

Along with Fonda, speakers at Friday's launch event preceding the civil disobedience included Keya Chatterjee, executive director of U.S. Climate Action Network; high school senior and climate striker Jerome Foster; author and activist Naomi Klein; Annie Leonard, executive director of Greenpeace USA; biologist and author Sandra Steingraber; and Kerene N. Tayloe, director of federal legislative affairs at WE ACT for Environmental Justice. Celebrities, scientists, economists and people from impacted communities will join her for "Fire Drill Friday", each week.

"I feel that I understand a little bit - this is a man who was traumatized as a child by his father, who had a mother that didn't protect him", she told the outlet. "This is a crisis, unlike anything that has ever faced humankind". "(With) everything that's going on in the news, well, we have to fight our way through that and find ways to get climate change in people's minds". "This is the future". "We don't want to just go silent".

But despite her lefty credentials, Fonda told Politico in 2018 that while she opposes President Trump's policies, she doesn't hate him as a person.
