Kurds march in Paris and Athens to protest Turkish incursion into Syria

Turkish drones hit YPG PKK terror anti-aircraft gun

A Syrian rebel commander fighting alongside Turkish forces said they seized a neighbourhood in Ras al-Ain and sealed the main routes leading to the area but SDF defences were impeding further advances.

Syrian Kurdish authorities are already struggling to guard ISIS fighters captured during the long US-backed campaign against the extremists and to keep a lid on ISIS supporters and family members thronging displacement camps.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on October 12 that securing prisons holding ISIS suspects is no longer its priority and that it's more focused on fighting the Turkish forces and is defending its people.

Marvan Qamishlo, an SDF spokesman, said Turkish-backed forces had entered the town's industrial district following hours of heavy Turkish shelling that had forced the SDF into a "tactical retreat" from that area.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters Friday that they would not abandon the Kurds but acknowledged that the Pentagon has withdrawn forces from Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn in response to Turkey's incursion in between the two border towns.

Pressure is building on Turkey to halt its operation, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says it will continue.

"I confirm to you that our forces have not reached the M4", Youssef Hammoud said in a voice message to Reuters, saying that they had instead reached a road closer to the border.

The Paris statement came hours after Germany, one of Turkey's main arms suppliers, also said it had suspended exports.

"You are not willing to protect the people, but you do not want another force to come and protect us".

Turkey and its allied fighters began the offensive on Wednesday to push back the Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG), the backbone of the SDF, from its border.

Some ISIS terrorists allegedly joined Turkey's Syrian Rebel Allies, according to Robin Fleming, another researcher at the Rojava Information Center, based in Qamishlo North-East Syria.

"The explosion occurred within a few hundred meters of a location.in an area known by the Turks to have U.S. forces present", the statement said.

Iraq, the current president of the League, said the offensive "will exacerbate humanitarian crises, increase the suffering of the Syrian people and strengthen the ability of terrorists to reorganise their remnants".

Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said that Turkey-backed Syrian opposition forces had taken control of the M-4 highway that connects the towns of Manbij and Qamishli.

Stoltenberg spoke at a news conference in Istanbul with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

As part of the operation, PKK/PYD-YPG terrorist targets were effectively hit by land and air, it said.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged Turkey's legitimate security concerns about the Syrian Kurdish fighters but warned that the offensive could "jeopardize" progress made against the Islamic State terror group that previously held territory in northern Syria.

The SDF's Qamishlo said the attack was carried out by Islamic State (IS) sleeper cells.

French leader Emmanuel Macron said the Turkish offensive must stop "as soon as possible" in a phone conversation with Trump on Friday, the presidency said.

France has suffered multiple deadly attacks by IS-linked radicals.
