Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid bound for 2019 LA Auto Show

Toyota to extend hybrid battery warranty to 10 years from date of first use/150,000 miles whichever comes first

The only plug-in model Toyota sells today is the Prius Prime, which provides 25 miles of all-electric driving and 54 mpg combined when running in conventional hybrid mode.

Along with providing an unspecified all-electric driving range, Toyota said the plug-in would be the most powerful version of the Rav4.

Other parts that make up a hybrid powertrain, such as the electric motors, power electronics controls, inverter, and other parts will have an eight-year/100,000 mile warranty.

When the much more appealing new RAV4 was revealed, we understood it would come with the option of Toyota's 2.5 litre hybrid setup or a 2.0 litre petrol.

Interestingly, the new derivative will take the form of a plug-in hybrid.

Further details surrounding the 2021 RAV4 will show up in November during the LA show.

Following the launch of the 2020 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid models, Toyota is adding a third variant to the lineup with the announcement of the 2020 RAV4 Plug-in which will debut at the 2019 LA Auto Show next month. The only other brand that offers a longer hybrid battery warranty is Hyundai that offers a lifetime battery warranty for its hybrids and plug-in hybrids. And it's time for it to get a plug-in hybrid version, which is claimed to be called as the most powerful RAV4 till date. That title now belongs to the standard all-wheel-drive Rav4 hybrid, which has 219 horsepower and a combined fuel economy rating of 40 mpg. Though there is one evident difference: the new Supersonic Red colour featured on it.
