A 'The Mighty Ducks' Reboot Is Happening

Disney Plus will launch in a few weeks.

A series based on the 1990s hockey movie franchise is being developed for Disney's new streaming service, Disney+, with production expected to begin February in Vancouver, according to Discussing Film. And the future of Star Wars will lie within Disney Plus.

In what is both an outrageous slight against a great many childhoods and one of the most obvious inevitabilities in recent memory, the forthcoming streaming monolith Disney+ is reportedly pushing forward with a series reboot of the hugely beloved - if not strategically shoddy - Mighty Ducks film series. Plans for the show were announced early past year but word on the project was quiet for a while there. Steven Brill, who wrote the 1992 film, was expected to return as an executive producer with Cathy Yuspa, Josh Goldsmith, George Heller, and Brad Petrigala.

Back in the 90s, a film called The Mighty Ducks came out, starring Emilio Estevez as a lawyer who, after being arrested for driving drunk, was forced to coach a kid's hockey team as a form of community service.

Discussing Film says the series will focus "on a 13-year-old boy when he gets kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, his mom decides to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play".

It was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter in early 2018 that a Mighty Ducks series was in early development at ABC Signature Studios.

Though, when I saw this headline, I was hoping for another iteration of The Mighty Ducks. It also spawned two sequel films and an animated series that ran from 1996-1997. Leave your thoughts and comments below, or on our social medias.
