Celtic face a battle in Rome — UEFA Europa League

Celtic fans stabbed in Rome

Two Celtic followers have been stabbed by Lazio supporters and hospitalized forward of the teams' Europa League match.

The Celtic fans stabbed are reportedly from Scotland and Germany, and their injuries are said to be not life-threatening.

"In terms of the Flann O'Brien pub, I'm told that around five or six masked men appeared from a side street and started to attack the Celtic fans randomly, for no apparent reason".

Should Celtic fail to win, they still have two more good chances of picking up the needed points to secure a berth in the last-32, and it's nearly impossible to see them failing to advance.

Celtic supporters and bar staff brought the victim inside the pub and they remained conscious while an ambulance was called.

With 20 minutes to go Celtic looked dead and buried against Lazio in Glasgow but a dramatic 93rd minute victor gave them an unlikely victor in a match they probably didn't deserve to win.

Supporters are advised to avoid wearing club colours while walking around Rome, particularly in the evening, stay in large groups where possible and keep a low profile.

In a statement on Thursday, Celtic confirmed they were aware of the incident and added that the two injured fans "will receive every support for the club and the British consulate in Rome".

In 2013 two Roma fans were jailed for their part in a violent ambush on Tottenham Hotspur fans in the central Campo de Fiori district before Spurs' Europa League match with Lazio.
