Iran may leave NPT in case of nuclear deal's termination, says diplomat

Pompeo slams Iran's treatment of UN nuclear inspector

He added that Iran was exercising its "rights" under its agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency when it revoked "her entrance and accreditation".

A spokesman for Iran's atomic agency, Behrouz Kamalvandi, said that the Iranian government "legally speaking" had done nothing wrong in stopping the female inspector from touring its Natanz nuclear facility on October 28.

Effective July 2018, access to full reports will only be available with a subscription.

The AEO said she was denied entry to the facility on October 28, but it did not say if anything was found among her possessions when she was searched.

"The United States fully supports the IAEA's monitoring and verification activities in Iran, and we are alarmed at Iran's lack of adequate cooperation", Pompeo said in a statement.

He also stressed the need to call on Iran to fully cooperate without delay with the IAEA in providing the information required, and to respect the immunities and privileges of IAEA inspectors, in addition to providing the appropriate conditions for them to do their work properly.

Iran alleges the inspector tested positive for suspected traces of explosive nitrates.

Jackie Wolcott, the USA envoy to the IAEA, said on Thursday that detaining the inspector and preventing her from leaving the country was an "outrageous provocation". President Donald Trump withdrew the USA from JCPOA, which was cobbled together by the Obama administration and also signed by China, Russia, and the European Union in 2015.

Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the JCPOA after the U.S. withdrawal, but the three European Union parties to the deal (France, Britain, and Germany) have failed to ensure Iran's economic interests.

Following Tehran's decision to take the fourth step in scaling down its commitments under the nuclear deal of 2015, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Ortagus called for more pressure on Iran, stating that Iran's decision to scale down parts of its JCPOA commitments was a threat to the "sovereignty" of its neighbors.
